FREE MobileMe Service?!?

MacRumors reports evidence that Apple might just be considering adding a free level of MobileMe service for iPad owners on iOS 4.2 when it is finally released, which should be soon since November will be drawing closed in 10 days.

The evidence comes in the form of a new private framework known as AppleAccounts.framework that includes a series of device-specific error messages referring to free MobileMe accounts. In particular, the error messages include alerts regarding having reached “the maximum number of free accounts” for a given device and certain devices not being “qualified for free MobileMe service”.

It looks like email won’t be going free but Find my iPad, Gallery, and sync services might be, so Apps for iPads will stay on top of the story as it unfolds!  Watch for UPDATES!

iPad Prices SLASHED!

Apps for iPads BREAKING NEWS!  Our friends at Crunch Gear and Engadget have reported sitings of unbelievable price cuts in the base iPad at T.J. Maxx stores! Everyone, quick! To your local TJ Maxx! I’m not sure where that would be in Seattle, but I wish I’d held off buying an iPad until today, since the department store appears to be offering the iPad (in one location at least) for a mind-blowing $399. Google Docs Rise Into the CLOUDS! MORE to FOLLOW!

Apps for iPads  is EXCITED!  Starting later this week you will be able, with the aid of "cloud technology" work directly in your Google docs on your iPad!  You won't even need an app to do it!  WHOOHOO!!! 

Google has added some much awaited functionality to Google Docs today — you can now edit your docs on-the-go with iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad!

The feature will be rolling out over the next few days and means that:

• You can work on that important memo…while on the bus or train to work.
• If you’re behind on a group proposal, but really want to make it to the ball game tonight, your whole team can work on it from the bleacher seats.
• You can take minute-by-minute notes at a concert so you’ll always remember the setlist. And your friends can jealously follow in real-time at home.
• …and the list goes on!

If you utilize Google Docs all you have to do is visit docs.google.com in Safari on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and select the document you would like to edit. Once the document is open simply select the edit button and you will be switched over to their mobile editor.

Apple Makes "GRAND" Announcement!!!

Apple, Inc spent the last few days announcing that they would have a GRAND announcement

this morning at 10:00am eastern time….

We all waited with baited breath, as usually Apple’s proclamations were truly GRAND…

This time we waited just to be told…

… Yes, the Beatles are now on iTunes… we could have told you THAT

DAYS ago!  They have been announcing THAT the same amount of time as their announcement!

So why did they need a GRAND announcement???  To build hype?  To get us flocking to the iTunes Store?

In the meantime, those of us that spent $$$ for our iPads are still waiting

for the GRAND announcement that we could finally have iOS 4.2 and all the

features that the $ iPhones users have had to themselves for MONTHS!

There have been constant, non-stop tweets since just after 10:00am and the GRAND announcement basically

saying “THIS is the GRAND announcement?!?  How DISAPPOINTING!!!”

So are YOU disappointed in Apple this morning?

Destroyed Apple Products = Art?!

I realize this isn’t our usual Apps for iPads article, but I found it intriguing and thought you might also:   

Artist Michael Tompert takes Apple’s products and wrecks them with blowtorches, sledgehammers, handsaws and handguns. “It’s an alternate viewpoint,” explained Tompert at a preview of his first gallery show, which opens in San Francisco today. “They’re beautiful inside. They’re beautiful when you open them up.”

Coming from an art background myself, I can respect chronicling and preserving contemporary objects in one’s artwork.  I, after all, have one piece that showcases a number of internal VCR parts within the finished artwork. However, I used the items to stress the subject of the artwork, and used the pieces, cleaned and polished, as embellishments attached to the surface of art.

But destroying Apple products to photograph them for large scale poster-like images, is that art?  I guess I am in “awe” of taking pricey fully-functioning Apple products and destroying them in the bargain.  My VCR was already “dead,” I didn’t kill it.  If anything I gave it a second life.  Apps for iPads exists to enhance your iPads, this is quite the opposite.

So what do you think?  Is it art?  Do you like it?  Would you buy it?

On the “flip side” I am glad to hear “the most difficult product to obliterate was the iPad -- "it's practically indestructible!"

During its Black Friday sale, Best Buy will offer the $50 gift card  for an unprecedented  20% off -- so it's only $40!
